Rep. TJ Cox Applauds Passage of USMCA

Rep. TJ Cox (CA-21) released the following statement on passage of the trade deal updating the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA):
“Representing the top ag district in the top ag state, I hear every day about how market uncertainty has made it nearly impossible for family farms to make ends meet,” said Rep. Cox. “That is why I worked with the Speaker directly to ensure the needs of Central Valley farmers and families were being met in this trade deal.”
“Over the past year I’ve been proud to work with pro-trade and pro-agriculture members from both sides of the aisle to develop a trade deal that delivers for American workers, protects the environment, and improves conditions for workers throughout North America. We pushed the White House and House leadership to work quickly, because the combination of trade uncertainty and backwards trade policy executed by this administration has cost Central Valley farms millions and damaged trading relationships worldwide.
“No doubt our trade relationships with our top partners needed an update. International trade has changed dramatically since NAFTA’s signing in 1994. Technology has connected us and dramatically changed the world economy. I’m proud that the agreement we’re unveiling develops a framework for 21st century trade and shows multilateral agreements can bring shared prosperity.”
