It was great to be back home in California this past week. My staff and I made it to over 20 events, hitting every corner of CA-21.
On Monday, I had the honor to serve as the House Speaker pro tempore. As I was presiding over the House proceedings, we received President Trump’s Fiscal Year 2020 budget to Congress. What we received was, to say the least, eye-opening.
This week the House passed H.R. 1, The For the People Act – a piece of historical legislation that puts hard-working families first by ensuring their voices are heard in our politics and policies.
The House of Representatives was back in Session on Monday following last week’s in-district work period. We voted on historic legislation to extend background checks for gun purchases, a Public Lands bill that expands and protects our open spaces, and a joint resolution that would end the President’s constitutionally-challenged and dangerous Emergency Declaration.
My colleagues and I had our first full district work period week of the 116th Congress. This week, I participated in over 20 events across the counties of Fresno, Kern, and Kings.
