Our Washington, DC office accepts interns of all backgrounds for approximately 10-week internships throughout the year. Applicants should be of college age or older. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' hectic course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. when Congress is in session, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when not in session.
In Washington, DC, interns' responsibilities will vary. They may be asked to answer phones, run errands, draft press clips, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office. The Washington, DC office is a fast-paced environment and seeks interns ready to serve the 21st district of California in our nation’s capital.
Our office has two district offices located in Selma and Bakersfield, CA. In the District office, interns may be asked to do a variety of tasks, including answering phones, writing letters, assisting with media clips, and working on District-based projects.
